Once you have a valid Will in place the next important decision is, where to store it ?
Only the original Will can be submitted for Probate, a copy will not be accepted and without the original your estate is dealt with as if a Will had never been made, as if you died intestate. Add to this the fact that there is currently no national database to store Wills it becomes clear that it is essential that your executors have quick and easy access to your original Will.
I would advise against keeping such an important document at home. It is possible that over time your Will could be lost or destroyed. It is estimated that a third of Wills go missing at the time they are needed. Fire, flood, moving house, burglary, even deliberate destruction are all risks to a Will kept in the home.
Cloveroak Wills can offer a low cost solution. For a small annual fee your Will can be stored in a secure, fire and flood proof facility where your documents are fully protected and insured. You will be provided with certificates of storage and documentation for your executors so that they have clear instructions as to how to find and retrieve your Will should they need to. You will also receive a copy of your Will to keep at home for your records.
Furthermore, for no extra cost any LPA documents or Letter of Wishes you may have can also be stored alongside your Will.
Document storage is very easily arranged and can be discussed and completed during the Will/LPA home consultation.
